Are you tired, over it and deep in that part of the semester where burnout starts looking like your reality. I get it – and it’s okay. I can hardly muster up the energy to make myself look like I care to be perceived, I don’t know how eighteen year old me did it. However, feeling presentable doesn’t have to take very much effort, in fact, it can be extremely effortless. Here are three ZERO EFFORT tips I have learned to always look like you’re holding all your baggage in color coded files, even if that’s really, really, not the case.
The One/Thirds Method
There are THREE main parts to making it look like you put effort into how you present yourself, your hair, your outfit, and your makeup. But who has time to worry about all three EVERY SINGLE DAY? Not me. So instead of worrying about all three, pick one to focus on every day. If you feel like wearing sweats to class, put your hair into a neat slick back. If you don’t have the energy to do a full face beat, dress yourself up in your best outfit. By putting effort into just one of these areas, you’ll instantly look more intentional — without spending an hour getting ready.
The Sandwich Method
Think of your outfit as a sandwich, each article of clothing as the layers in the middle. This is the number one thing that comes to my mind when I am picking out an outfit. The best tip to making sure your outfit looks cohesive is making sure you’ve got two articles of clothing with the same color (essentially being the bread on the top and bottom).
Let me give you an example, if I’m wearing a white belt then I’ll put a white headband in my hair. Even if your shirt and pants are totally random, this subtle coordination tricks the eye into thinking your outfit is cohesive. It’s the easiest styling hack that always works.
Accessories Galore
The fastest way to look put together (without actually trying) is stacking up on your jewelry. Wearing accessories will always make it seem like you put far more effort into your appearance than you really did. I am always wearing bracelets, I never even take mine off but they are staples in every outfit I wear. I also think that jewelry is such a great way to show your personality. My bracelets are a collection of ethnic bracelets, gifts from people I love, and ones I simply just find cute and stylish. Even if you’re wearing an outfit you deem as simple, LOAD UP on those accessories and it will elevate your outfit to a whole new level.
Looking like you’ve got it together doesn’t mean waking up at 6 a.m. to beat your face full of makeup and steam your outfit. Sometimes it just means throwing on some hoops and faking it ‘til you make it. We’re not aiming for perfection and yes, these tips take a LITTLE bit of effort so technically I lied to you but giving a little something to yourself everyday might just get you to where you want to be.
Peace & Love,
