Let’s catch up!

It’s been a while since I have written for the blog. Every idea that I have had for a post I have written down in the notes app of my phone. Looking back on it, I feel like they cannot be an entire post. So, I thought why not catch up while explaining my notes app. These past few weeks have been crazy and I have noticed a big shift in myself. One of the biggest updates I have is that I finally started on my school newspaper! After having so much imposter syndrome with my writing, I have come to terms that I am not alone. Anyways, I have more to say on that, here is what my notes app has looked like over the past few weeks:

I have been contemplating joining the school newspaper for so long. It makes me feel like I am officially starting my career, which is lowkey scary. Since my first article, I have reminded myself that I will not be a perfect writer right away. The way that I can progress to becoming a better writer is to ‘make it exist first’.
I went to a local news room and met an alumni from my school who is now a reporter. He said the best way you can learn is by going through the motions and pushing yourself to do it. Though this was not my first time hearing this, it has kept me going to the newspaper meetings and taking stories, even if I am scared. My first few articles can be a reference point in the future of my progression.

This one goes kind of hand-in-hand with ‘make it exist’ first, but this was in a whole different context. I have been doing study sessions with my friend and when we avoid our work we talk about the class we have together. We both are taking American Women’s History, which is a heavy class in reading but the topics as well. She is very involved in activism, and we talk about current events as well. She said something that stuck with me which was ‘Feel the fear but do it anyways’. This can be applied to many contexts but just remember that fear can be used for good.

I went to visit some friends out of town over the weekend and I heard someone say ‘that’s so AI’. At first I thought it was so goofy, and I still think it’s goofy but like what are we talking about? Honestly, I just wanted to share it and I don’t think it needs more explanation.

This quote came after talking with my family about phones. My aunt and uncle recently made a switch to bringing back flipphones. I think it is so cool and I wish I could do that right now with them. Unfortunately, in college I have to rely on my phone to do things like get into my building. Eventually I want to try this because I believe that we, as a society, rely on convenience.

I have asked what the biggest problems that she has found with going back to a flip phone is that it’s hard to text people. I think my generation uses texting way more than calling. The intention of a conversation is not the same.

Overall, I have been busy but it has been a good busy. If you are interested in what I am writing you can check out The Spectator. We are trying to get back into our routine for glossed over. If you have any suggestions on what we should write about, there is a message box on the homepage, or you can email us at theglossedoverblog@gmail.com
