Transitioning into summer in my college town after a busy spring semester
Welcome back, It’s been a while Glossed Over fam. Both Krys and I have had such busy semesters and we together decided to take some time off. We have both had our hands full with student organizations and the reality of being a full time college student, but we are back for the summer and ready to deliver with some fun content!
While I was not creatively writing for the blog, I was still writing – don’t you worry. Over the past few months I have tapped into my truest Journalist though writing on my school newspaper; The Spectator. Through this semester and these experiences, I have felt more fulfilled every time I get a chance to sit down and pour my thoughts onto a page. It’s the best feeling, knowing that I am right where I am supposed to be.
For this blog post, I am going to keep it simple. Simplicity is what I am craving in these complex times of being in my early 20s. I am moving into my first apartment and spending the summer away from home. I have been excited to finally feel like an adult, but I still crave my friends and family – a craving will never go away. The sweet smell of the Mississippi River and the convenience of biking to my friends houses were something that I took for granted.
This summer I am balancing a few jobs, but I want to put my focus into creating more stability in my life. If you know me, you know I love to craft. Crafting is another one of my creative escapes. Throughout my college experience, I have created a scrapbook of all of my favorite memories. I seem like a hoarder at the moment for keeping weird flyers (like the one I have of a Mennonite choir that sang on campus one afternoon), but these scraps are truly the pieces that tell the story of my experiences as a college student. When I am feeling lost, I take out my scrapbook that tells my story the best.
Here are a few pages I am most proud of:
Another practice I want to put more effort into this summer is journaling. I have been slacking even though I know it’s what I need at times. I am going to practice what I preach, which is healthy habits like journaling. All who are reading this have permission to contact me and ask if I have journaled today.
All to say, I am excited for this new season of my life, but that comes with new nerves. I am working on getting myself out there in the journalism world and am grateful to report I have surrounded myself with wonderful people who choose and support me. I look forward to continuing this blog as it is something that has brought me lots of joy. Krys and I are very proud of where we are going. Stay tuned for more content on our social media. I hope everyone has a great rest of spring!
